Buffalo Man is the name of the silhouette character featured on most of the covers of Jamiroquai's releases. It was created by Jay Kay himself between 1992 and 1993.Buffalo Man was created sometime prior to the release of their 1992 single When You Gonna Learn, allegedly it was originally sketched by the band's primary songwriter and front-man Jason Kay as Buffalo Man is seemingly a self portrait silhouette of Jason wearing a buffalo hat. The mark has been used on almost every commercial (and sometimes non-commercial) release of the band's output in some form or another; usually the unique symbol is pictured unaltered, but there have been times where it is shown in a stylised manner to suit the artwork or song.
Text Logo
Just like the Buffalo Man, the Jamiroquai text logo has also had several variations depending on the theme. The oldest version of the logo is the one seen on the Acid Jazz Records release of When You Gonna Learn. In comparison to the current text logo one can see that the old Acid Jazz Records version of the logo was more angular at points, together with the letters being much thinner. Several variations of the current logo also exist. Releases of "Cosmic Girl" and the promo CD of "Everyday" had replaced the dots above the 'i' letters with stars. Other slight, temporary variations include a slight vertical stretch of the typeface, as seen on the cover art of A Funk Odyssey and Rock Dust Light Star.

Jason 'Jay Kay' Cheetham :

Born December 30, 1969 (age 40)
Jay Kay's mother is former television personality Karen Kay. His primary home is in Buckinghamshire, but also he owns homes in Westminster, Gairloch, a house in Sandbanks, Poole.
After Jay Kay auditioned unsuccessfully to be the singer of the Brand New Heavies, he decided to put together his own band. Jamiroquai’s first single, When You Gonna Learn?, was released in 1992 on the Acid Jazz label. Following its success, Kay signed a £1,000,000 eight-album record deal with Sony BMG Music Entertainment. Jay Kay is a hat and car lover. During shows he always wears a hat, and he has lots of very expensive sports cars, like a Ferrari.

Matt Johnson
Matt was aged one and a half when he started playing the piano at his family home. ‘My dad was a musician so there was always music playing in the house, but I remember being taught by a scary old piano teacher, who must have been over 90 years old’. His influences range from Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis through to Squarepusher.
His route into Jamiroquai was via an audition in 2001. He was recommended by Simon Katz, a previous guitarist, and Derrick gave him the call. The audition was a success and Matt is now a well established writer and member of the Jamiroquai family.

Born in England in 1964, since very little known to the world of the battery, with 6 years started to play at the end of the 80 went through several jazz and funk groups like Tranzeyance or Candyland. In 1993, he meets a friend who in turn is a friend of a producer and after a couple of days I called to hear a new band called Jamiroquai, so far he had not heard, but listening to a couple of songs was amazed with the group and soon after, he joined drummer and so on until today.

Paul Turner

Paul was born in Sunderland, grew up in the quiet Isle Of Man and since leaving in 1987 has made as much noise as possible!
He cut his teeth with soul singers like Ruby Turner and Edwin Starr helping him to groove into the world of rock n roll, funk n soul.
His released recording credits include Tina Turner, George Michael, Tom Jones, and Kylie Minogue.
As well as years of touring with covers/revue bands, unsuccessful original bands and very successful pop bands, his live credits also include the likes of Lamont Dozier, Mica Paris, Omar, Down To The Bone, Annie Lennox and now Jamiroquai.

Rob Harris
Born 27 August 1971

He first appeared on the Cambridge scene at the age of fourteen.
In his early 20s, he broke into the London music world, turning up at local jam sessions and earning a name for himself.
His first breakthrough came when he hooked up with Tubeway Army star & 1980’ies electronica legend Gary Numan eight years ago for a UK tour.
After a long spell with the former Take That singer Mark Owen, he heard Jamiroquai were on the lookout for a guitarist and put himself forward.
Rob has recorded 2 albums with Jamiroquai. (Hopefully there will be many more!)

Sola Akingbola
Born 2nd August 1965, outside Lagos, South Western Nigeria.

Growing up in London he was influenced by his parents, who played a lot of Yoruba music.
His first gig was with Gasper Lawal on cowbell and backing vocals.
Derrick McKenzie became interested after reading Sola’s name. After spending some hours with him: talking, hearing records and enjoying his rhythm skills in a live gig with jazz guitarist Ronny Jordan, Sola was able to join the band almost immediately and without audition.
